I'm a very proud Sabahan. Also a very proud Kadazandusun.
For me, every 'Sumandak' (girl) should own at least one traditional costume of their ethnic.
In conjuction of the araimaitee aka Kaamatan month, May, I make this one for myself :)

I am very proud to be born in Borneo, a culture richness place, variety of ethnics/natives. One of my favourite local event is Unduk Ngadau, an annual beauty pageant, where all the beauties will donning a variety of traditional costumes. Check out this site to get a glimpse about this.

I use the vest B pattern and skirt C with some adjustments made.

Overall, i'm very happy with it. It's not as perfect as the others, but at least i feel very proud wearing it. Feel good sewing... :)

ReplyDeleteHi alviana,
ReplyDeleteIt's really a beautiful costume you have there. I'm actually looking for the kadazan costume to wear to a function here in Singapore. I'm a Malaysian and part of the requirement is to wear a traditional costume on that day and i wore a kebaya last year. This year I'm thinking of other ethnic's costume that people are less aware of.
Would you be able to advise where I can get the costume & if you do tailoring?
Thanks you.
Carol
